What will I remember in my class-Level 5a

What will I remember in this class ? There are too many impression to share here, yet I will choose the most two impressive things to say. That is we have two instructors in this class which is beneficial to me for several reasons. Another is that I have very brave classmates who can inspire and encourage me.

One of the reason why I will remember my class is that we are the only class which has two instructors. Although in the beginning of the class, I was worried about that we may have double assignments, and it may be difficult to satisfy two instructors. Yet afterward, I found that was just my imagination, and it scared myself. Instead, I had double assists from both instructors, and I can get double suggestions and ideas from them. In addition, it may has more objective final evaluation which is better than the result that is judged by one person. Most importantly, they are all very approachable teachers who allow us to make appointment with them to ask whatever questions. For an international student such as me, who studies abroad alone, having an approachable instructor is very helpful and essential. Therefore, for the reasons of having two approachable instructors and being able to get double assists or suggestions from them, I will definitely remember this class.

Having many brave and friendly classmates is the other reason why I will remember from the class. For example, Du, from Vietnam, gave me very honest comments for my final presentation. I was appreciate with his comments toward to me because the gentle but honest suggestion was very useful to me. The other instance, Beomjim, from Korea, had penetrating opinions and questions for every presenters which really shocked me. I thought, it may is due to his enriched life experience because his age is older than all of us. Miso, Korean girl, was very quiet in class, but she is claver. I had private talk with her, she has modern thoughts toward to things such as love perspective. From these three of examples , hopefully, it helps you to understand that how much I am appreciate to be with my classmates.

Despite of the fact that I am extreme worried about whether I will pass this level or not, I realize that I learned a lot from my classmates and instructors. I am sure that I will remember this level by the reasons of having two instructors and excellent classmates.

First impression of YUELI

It is complicated to illustrate the first impression of YUELI. Generally speaking, I had mixed feeling at that time when arriving YUELI. There were a lot of Asian students here that drove me to think whether it was right choice to come here learning English or not. However, the YUELI's staff and teachers are so friendly, whenever you have questions, go up to ask then they pay attention and make effort to help you dealing with your problems.

In addition, the YUELI's location seems to be hidden under a secret place where general York students would not know it. It looked like a maze which made me getting lost when I just got here. Therefore, I always keep my compass in my backpack.

Once upon a time, I got lost again in campus because I could not find the Room021 in Winter college. I scooped out my super compass , had ever save my life when I went mountain hiking, from the deepest place in my backpack. Meanwhile, I took the campus map and put under my compass. As I took out the compass and map, there was a series of laughs comes toward to me. That was my friend. She could not believe what she had seen. That was the other impression of YUELI.

To sum up, although the first impression of YUELI for me is a matter of long time ago and is difficult to shape the feeling, I still remember the teachers and staff are so friendly, and many students are from Asia that confused my purpose of learning English. Otherwise, the locasion of YUELI looked like a maze which always confused me. Eventhough that so, I like to study in YUELI.

Why I recommend Kaohsiung to visitors?

There are a couple of reasons for attracting visitors such as the food, groceries and the weather.
First of all, the food in Kaohsiung aims for seafood, because of the location where is near by the sea, there are various kinds of FRESH sea food items, and it all stands on the good reasonable price. Therefore, you can order whatever you want and enjoy the delicious and fresh sea food until you feel satisfied. Kaohsiung is food-lover’s heaven.
For the groceries, there have several different but cheap stuff such as electrical equipment, computer supplies, clothing, wallets, decoration and so on. If you are eager to go shopping cheap but high slandered groceries, Kaohsiung is the shopping paradise.
Last but not least, the weather in Kaohsiung is usually sunny. It does not like the place where full of snow and windy. Therefore, if you desire for getting sun shower, come to Kaohsiung. For sure, you will enjoy the beautiful sunshine.

The most exciting thing in my past week

There are many exciting things which were happened in my past week; however, for the most exciting thing which was receiving good news from the YUELI office. That was to get a successful certificate from Level 5b.

For the reason why I was excited is that I had waiting for getting the certificate for a long vacation. Because that I did not attend the final lunch of the last level, I was not able to get my certificate before the long vacation. Therefore, I could not know my grades and comments from my pre-teacher, but I was eager to know if I get well grades, comments and being mentioned where I should focus more in my learning.

Although I have already known that I have passed the last Level, I still could not wait for that long to see my certificate. As I receiving my affectionate certificate, I was extremely cheerful although I did not get the expect grade, at least I know where I should enrich in my learning. That was the reason why I felt excited for getting Level5b’s certificate.

Alison's brief Introduction

Hi, folks,

This is Alison, Chang, comes from Taiwan, a tropical island which lays off the east-south way of China. I currently study in YUELI , in Toronto, to enrich my English for being able to apply in York Master Degree. There are some brief introduction about me, such as my current goal, interest and favorite food.



To be successful in YUELI Level 6 Distinction before this May is my destination which is extremely important for me. That will determine whethere I am able to reach the language requirement for applying MD in York or not. There are two reasons why I am eager to finish Level 6 Distinction. Firstly, I have been YUELI for too long time, and I can not fail in finishing YUELI because it costs my hands and legs. Secondly, the expired day of my plan ticket is before this May, and the price of ticket is not cheap for me; therefore, if I can not reach this goal in before this May, I have to wait to next year to be able to apply the major what I want because they only allow applying once a year for it.



For my interest, I am crazy for mountain hiking, swimming and like to try extrem sport in the future. Generally speaking, I like the sports which can let me feel a little bit of exhausted because I enjoy the feeling of being sweat.



For the favorite food of mine, frankly speaking, I like all kinds of food and would like to try many different type of food which is from different country. However, I especially like fruit, such as kiwi, lemon, strawberry, banana, orange, pine apple and so on. Besides, the vegetable is my lover. I can live with eating vegetable only but without meat. In addition, I prefer to drink tea, juice, soybean milk and wine more than plan watter and beer.

It is good chance to introduce more about myself in this website, and I believe that you will get to know more about my characteristic in the future.

The Diary about Friday night, Jan 6th, 2007

On this Friday night, I had a lot of fun and new experiences, such as visiting subway driver's room and experience attending in a club, and throw a bounch of napkin in a club.

On the way to a club, I visited and listened to a subway driver's introduction about general subway knowledge, such as how fast it goes, the subway system, the training to be a subway driver and so on. He is such a kind driver because he heard that I said ," I have never seen a driver's room" , beside the driver. Ha ha...it's interesting experience for me and good to now more things anbout subway.

I went a club which names "Afterlife". I like this name because "Afterlife" ,it seems to mean"Dead". Dance and jump and cheer up till you dead. I guess so. That night, there was no age limit, so any ages people who can go in this club. Well, I experienced the deaf feeling. How come? Ha ha...because the extreme loud music. The shining light, extreme loud music and crowed crazy dancing people are shook me a lot.
That night, a server throw the napkins from second floor, and I asked for helping him to throw it to downstairs, the dancing ground. That's so funny!! It looked like a big snow. Actually, I thought I should keep these napkin for my home use.

Anyways, this friday night was my frirst time to visit and know more subway things from a subway driver, and my first time to go a club and throw down that many napkin. Ha ha....so special feeling .

Feelings during this week

In this past week, I had mixed feelings which combined excitement, nervousness, relief, rejuvenation and frustration.

For the feeling of excitement, it was due to the first time that I saw falling snow on December 2^nd. I had never seen such beautiful scene in my life before. There were covered the road and roof by the falling snow. I like snowing because the whole world seems to become a silent child who was sleeping in a mother’s hug. The view of falling snow led me to feel awesome and excited.

For the nervousness feeling which was from the fact of that I took TOEFL test. I was nervous that the test would be as difficult as many people mentioned to me, and it did.

However, although it was difficult test for me who felt nervous before the moment of the test, having took this test, I immediately felt relieved and rejuvenated because that I got worthy experience in attending TOEFL test.

Unfortunately, I was under the weather because the low grades in assignment and quizzes which were from my morning class. I have been afraid of that I could not pass this course for a long time. Although I was planning to restart my new studying plan after the TOEFL test, I got frustration firstly before I started new plan.

Having reflected on past week, despite the mixed feelings which I had as excitement, nervousness, relief, rejuvenation and frustration, I am trying to remove negative feelings from my daily class and put two and two together in lightening my grades and mood up in assignment and tests. I hope my positive motivation which leads and support me to the end of this level.

My First Experience

My First Experience

There are many special first experiences in my life, but the most impressive one which stands out in my mind is that I went to see hockey game as YUELI trip in this week, and that was awesome experience to me for two reasons.

First of all, I felt excited due to that it was my first time to see hockey game on live. I have never seen sport game on live. Even though I did not know the entire rules of hockey game, while I was seeing the game, I felt excited and nervous all the time, so my hands were all sweat. Besides, I could see the hockey players’ acrimonious gestures, actions and felt their ambitious which eager to win this game, and those feelings which are hard to be found as same as staying in front of TV. I liked the feeling which was from the beginning to the end of watching hockey game on live because it just took so real feeling to me. I could not expect how I felt excited before.

Second, I had good company to be with while I was watching the hockey game. My best friend and one of conversation partners explained some of the game’s rules for me. If you were the first time to see any sports games, it was a good idea to have company who can explain the general ideas or rules of the game for you because that will let you be able to feel more involved in the play.

In brief, the most impressive experience which cheers me up and stands out in my life was to see the hockey game on live because of two reasons as that was my first time to see hockey game on live, and the feelings of excited and a good company to be with. There is no doubt that will be one of the special memories in my mind, and I will not forget about it.

Special Day

There are many special and sweet memories in my life. One of the sweet memories, which stand out most in my mind, is happened in this afternoon because I saw a famous guitar player, who names Gibson Guillaume; therefore, this day became my special day. I felt happy to see him for two reasons, which are that he actually is one of my best friends in abroad , and he is the most famous and outstanding guitar teacher of mine.

For the first reason that he is one of my best friends abroad because I usually stay with him, talk my thoughts, vent my feelings or even exchange opinion with him. To meet a good friend and be able to talk with are not easy; especially living in abroad alone as me. However, he is that kind of friends who I can trust and be able to talk with or share feelings. Therefore, while I saw him this afternoon, I felt happy, and it just liked that I was at my native country at that moment.

For the second, he is the most famous and outstanding guitar teacher of mine. He knows a lot of music and has had strong background of playing guitar since he was a child. Whenever he heard music, he could describe and explain the music's background and characteristics for you. In addition, wherever he saw guitars, he was really like an addict because he would explain with joyful about the guitar's attractions, history, brands and its background for you. Also, in his guitar description, he described it with patience but without any arrogance. Consequently, he was an outstanding guitar teacher in my mind.

In brief, I felt wonderful in this day, and it has become my special day as the reasons of seeing my best friend in abroad and his outstanding guitar skills for teaching me.

The Last Night in Ottawa

There are a lot of good memories in Ottawa trip, one of the impressive things was happened in the night pub at the last night in Ottawa.

We went to the night pub, named "Rainbow" because there were some good bands which were going to sing and play music instruments. I was look forward and ready to fall into the happy time there. I ordered red wine and shook body while the music started. One grandpapa, who was a gentle man, and as his actions and gestures, I guess that he was a boss of this pub, came upstairs to talk something to me and seemed to call me go downstairs to dance. Of course I didn't follow him because I was enjoying seeing those music bands' performance with my bird's view.

Then, after a long time later, the grandpapa invited me to dance. I said I'm very shy to dance in the downstairs and in front of public; therefore, he led me dance on upstairs, which just beside my friends and some of customers. While we were in the dancing, he whispered me how to do every next action and step, so that I could follow him and know when I should turn a circle and how many circle. I was extremely enjoying the dance because his teaching and leading.

After the dancing, my friends told me with sharp eyes, "Alison!! Don't pretend that you don't know how to dance any more!! ", and the other friend told me, "you danced so well, and the other customers ask me "is she your friend? She danced so nice.'' "

In conclusion, the last night in Ottawa was very amazing experience! It was my first time to dance in pub because the old man’s invitation. He was a very good teacher! I suddenly found that if I have very good dancing teacher, I might be a perfect dancer as I imaged when I was a child. That night, a part of my dreams had come true!

The feeling of Sunday Afternoon

For me, there is always some life feeling everyday, but these feeling are not always having chances to be recorded. This Sunday afternoon, I got chance to write down everything what I felt immediately. It was about the feeling of working with disturbance in this Sunday afternoon.

While I just pulled my chair out and sat down to review my binder in one of the York buildings, which is used to be a very quiet environment to study, suddenly, there came to one couple who sat just in front of me and started talking about the average age of people getting married and having children, their presentation result and partner and so on. I thought, “Come on, I just sit down…God...”, but I did not say anything to them; instead, my face looked calm.

I was pressing my a little anger. I picked up my paper, but I could not concentrate on it. Then I tried to look for the definition of vocabulary as our assignment, but I could not focus on the word’s description. I could barely do anything at that moment, but I did not want to waste time to find other seats. Although the noise for me was a kind of torture, I must do something right now.

My heart and mind were tortured by noise. It was really hard to work while any noise surrounding me, especially the noise just right in front of me. “I must do something”, I told myself again. Therefore, I decided typed down my feeling about this annoyance in Sunday afternoon, and this mini article was produced. Only one thing which I felt funny was that while they were talking lively, I was typing my unsatisfied feeling about them. It was funny, wasn’t it?

To sum up, although the feeling of Sunday afternoon was a kind of torture for me because the noise surrounding me, and I could barely do anything, I got inspiration from the resource of noise and was able to finish this small article. In addition, it also made me feel funny without being noticed. I lost my peace but gain inspiration in writing. As old saying, “A loss may turn to be a gain.”

A big bug..

There was a big bug in my conclusion sentence of final writing test. My god. How could I made this big mistake? Because my big bug, the whole sentence became opposite meaning. Unfortunately, I put "not" in my final sentence, so the meaning of this sentence was obviously wrong.

Sigh with sad. ......I'm worried about my writing test result. God, please helps me.

My family experience-2(Corrected)

My family and I had a good time last year because the whole family of mine went out to have fun together during new-year vacation. We hadn’t gathered together for long time. It was an opportunity to warm up our family relationship.

In the early morning of the first day of this vacation, the whole family and my aunts’ family met in the high way at 6 A.M. Our destination was E-Lan province, the north of Taiwan. There have much beautiful and famous scenery in this province.

On the way, we talked with happiness, laughed like the brightest sunshine, and exchanged our different opinion about anything. We had small talks such as weather, sport, movie, music, job, friend, company, school, army, future plans, generation relationship, joke, nonsense and so on. The whole atmosphere in my car was warmer than the warmest sunshine. We hadn’t talk like this for long time till this good opportunity which whole family stayed together in the same car.

After we parked our car in one of the foot of famous mountains in E-Lan, we carried our small package and stepped light step with happiness to the top of the mountain. Our moods were as good as the weather which shone down bright sunshine and blew warm and fresh breeze. Although my mother felt tough and out of breath about hiking, all of us were enjoyed in the sweat, good view and fresh air.

Step by step, ultimately, we conquered the top of mountain and stood on the highest of this mountain which is more than two thousand meters. At that moment, I was happier than the birds in the trees, my family was, too. I liked this feeling because I felt that I was an eagle fly above the sky when I stood on the top of mountain. Because we didn’t have chance to finish the same goal such as occupy a mountain together, my parents and two brothers all liked this feeling, especially after a long hiking. From the highest top, we can see the plains, other mountains and small houses below. We went downhill after took many pictures and had enough rest. The gentle sunset right behind us drew a perfect and complete period for this trip.

Although it almost took us three and a half hours, we were really enjoyed in this trip. That was a good memory. I am sure, we won’t forget this trip. It’ll stay in our mind forever wherever we are.

Wonderful Dessert

My homestay's grandmother gave me a wonderful dessert after dinnder last night. It was two balls of chocolate ice cream with a small muse cake.

When I ate these fantastic snacks, I forgot everything that made me unpleasant. The most reason why I liked this dessert is ice cream. I felt excited when I ate ice cream and it made me calm down.

To eat ice cream always makes me happy and calm.I was a bird, flied above the sky when I ate ice cream that time. My God, I'm so love ice cream, any kinds of ice creams I like. Next time, I'll try to take photo before I eat it, but it's difficult for me.

I don’t know the reason why about I get nervous and easily upset these days. I always feel I don’t have enough time to do what I want to do and have many questions in my mind about why I couldn’t do the perfect job.

For example, my presentation topic was not too interesting, so I have to think of another topic, but I’m so worried that about my second topic is still boring. If it is so, my teacher will give back my topic and I will redo it. It means that my data which I found before are abandoned again. I have to find the other data again. The real problem is I just can use Internet in on campus because I don’t have Internet at Homestay and I have curfew. The other reason is I’m not good at finding data from Internet because I’m not good enough to find “Key Word” in what I want to find. Also, I often lose my attention in one thing, especially when I surf Internet for searching information. Too much information that I want to know, but I couldn’t catch up all of them. If you ask me, what would you want to be in your next life, I will answer you, I’m eager to be a book which is has everything inside, and knows every language and knowledge.

My family experience-1

When I was a child in childhood, we lived near to downtown of Kaohsiung which is the south of Taiwan. We moved to the north of Kaohsiung when I almost graduated from elementary school. It was close to the schools where my parents taught.I thought that near by my parents’ school, but I had to leave all of my friends in elementary school. I was afraid of didn't know how to make good friend in a new school that time. Also, I couldn’t buy snacks in near grocery store by walking because we moved into a the country side. There weren’t any grocery stores near by my house. Both these two reasons made me upset.

Gradually, I felt funny and was interested in many insects behind our house. Because we lived in that location, such as lived in country side, there were many country roads behind us. Less Fewer cars or motorcycles passed by there, so I had ever seen saw snakes which has with white and black nodes on its body, red dragonfly dragonflies flied flying above the gutter and many strange insects on the leaves or the trunks of trees. I enjoyed in discovering a new insect that I had never seen it before in my free time. Also, I played roller skates and rode bicycle on these country roads. I thought I love here it . We have stayed more than thirteen years in the same place until now.

Form Among my family members, my mother retired from senior high school last year, but father is still teaching in University. My older brother is in army now, and younger brother is studying in high school, but he’ll graduate from school after two years. Both of my brothers are going to go come to Canada after they finish their duty. My grandfather is still living, but he can’t speak up because the doctor threw out removed his throat larynx after he got throat cancer. My dearest grandmother has died shortly after we just moved to the countryside no longer. I was super depressed about that, but I felt better after three years. Although this event is long time ago, sometimes I miss her, especially when I get depressed, lonely or need someone give me suggestions.

In brief, from the past until now, we had tasted any have experienced all kinds of situations whether sweet, happy, busy or complex. We have to learn how to communicate with each other. Luckily to say, we have same concept about health. For example, we usually go walking after dinner, eat a lot of vegetables and fruit on weekdays, go mountain hiking on holidays and so on. I have a complete and healthy family and I believe we will solve problem together when one of the family member is facing challenge.

On time

My bus always comes on time when I’m late just one minute. When I go to bus-stop on time, my bus always comes late more than 5 minutes. We always can not match up correctly.

Maybe the bus just wants to give me training about my patience because it knows I don’t have enough patience to wait for something, even waiting for a long line to take my favorite roller-coaster. On the other hand, it is Though it's really a nice training for me, but I don’t want it to be happened too often much time.

Although I don’t feel bored when I wait for bus because I could listen to News, music and English program with my MP3, I usually imagine that I have one bicycle and it will be perfect.

I prefer to ride more than take bus if I have bicycle. Then I don’t need to care about my bus time and run to bus-stop or meeting location like nuts. Although it is a nice exercise to running in the morning or afternoon for sure, it also makes me fastened rush. If I successful arrive at the in bus-stop successfully, in addition, I and don’t have to wait for the bus for more than 5 minutes, I would be as happy as a bird all day like a bird. It seems I am easily happy, isn’t it?

Although to take bus is the cheap way in Canada, except walking, I hope that I could get used to waiting for bus soon.

Toronto Islands Walking Tour

We collected met in Vari Hall on Saturday. It was my first time to attend go on a YUELI a trip. I was excited. I talked with my classmates and the other students whenever on the bus or ferry. Although this was raining day, my heart was full of expectation.

We took school bus to Mainland Island ferry Terminal. It was still raining dogs and cats. On the ferry, I couldn’t hold steady myself to take picture. I’m not haven't often traveled by ferry, even in my back country.

I was lucky, pleasurable pleased and excited that I could take picture with my favorite conversation partner. Also, I was so happy that my favorite conversation partner was our tour guide.

When we arrived Centre Island Ferry Dock, we were separated two parts. One group was to the Eastern side. The other’s was to the Western side. I chose the first one. First of all, we crossed a small bridge and passed by a pond which used to hold Port Regatta.
Then we went straight to a pier. Many beautiful migratory birds were flying above us. They gathered a formed of an arrowhead. I was very interested in those birds. Those birds will fly to the other country in order to avoid winter when at the end of fall if I didn’t hear wrong from the Island guide. As I know, these kinds of birds will exchange the leader when the first bird is tired and fly backward. The second migratory bird which behind the first one will automatically fly forward to lead their group. They are very wise bird in all of the birds.

On the road way, I was talked with different students and our conversation partner till we arrived Ward’s Island Ferry Dock. What a The poor conversation partners! They went to the tour for relax, but I spoke poor English to torture them. Ha, ha. They have much a lot of patience to listen to what I said. I had better to learn from them how to establish my patience be patient. I had this thought when I was talking to them.

Soon, we finished this tour and just spent about two or three hours including took ferry because it was raining. I felt a bit bored disappointed because the tour was too short. God sometimes goes his on holiday, so he sometimes and neglects my expectancy about my wish for not raining. Well, although it was regretful and a bit boring, I felt glad to know this Island. I plan to choose one sunny day and go to this nice place again.
